Below — Water continually cascades off the edge of the platforms as waves push across them. Below — A memorial on the cliff tops at Jubilee Point, Sorrento. A sobering reminder of how dangerous this area can be. As usual I became distracted. There were waves crashing all over the place here but the long exposure makes it look deceptively calm. All were shot in the late afternoon using ND and ND8 filters combined to achieve the desired long exposure times. In order to achieve these 3 exposures I set my camera to aperture priority mode, enable auto bracketing and set the ISO as low as it will go.

There are many overseas examples of this approach, one of the best being the city of Liverpool. Robin Spragg, Donvale Time to tackle rail yards To plonk an Apple store on Federation Square seems like a soft option from that company’s creatives. Soft in that they are happy to claim a plot on the very expensive platform built by the Victorian public purse. A more interesting proposition from the design and technology world of corporates might focus on an appropriate development over the rail yards at Federation Square east, thereby adding value rather than mere substitution.

Advertisement Many times in the past, Victorian governments of both persuasions have sought partners to develop this challenging site. Unfortunately, the pool of potential partners with vision, capital and a keen eye for opportunity are few and far between. Can we see that photo montage of the Apple box tweaked to show it floating over the rail yards, please? History[ edit ] Towrang bridge of The coast of New South Wales from the Queensland border to the Victorian border is separated from the inland by an escarpment , forming the eastern edge of the Great Dividing Range. There are few easy routes up this escarpment. To climb from the coast to the tablelands the Hume Highway uses the Bargo Ramp, a geological feature which provides one of the few easy crossings of the escarpment.

In the first twenty years of European settlement at Sydney established , exploration southwest of Sydney was slow. This area was heavily wooded at the time, especially the ” Bargo brush “, which was regarded as almost impenetrable. Any settlement would have to await the construction of an adequate access track, which would have been beyond the colony’s resources at the time, and would have served little purpose as a source of supplies for Sydney, due to the time taken to reach Sydney.

On another expedition in , he reached Lake Bathurst and the “Goulburn Plains”. The present route of the Hume Highway is much the same as that used by the pioneers. The route taken by the Hume Highway to climb from the coast to the Southern Tablelands and thence across the Great Divide is situated between the parallel river gorge systems of the Wollondilly and Shoalhaven rivers.

This country consists generally of a gently sloping plateau which is deeply dissected by the Nepean River and its tributaries. The route of the Highway, by using four high-level bridges to cross these gorges, avoids the Razorback Range, and has minimal earthworks. The climb from the western side of the Nepean River at Menangle up to Mittagong is fairly sustained, a fact that is hard to appreciate at high speed on the modern freeway. The highway climbs non-stop over a distance of 16 kilometres 9.

A summary of cyclone-associated deposits in the Great Barrier Reef published by Larcombe and Carter [ Cyclone pumping, sediment partitioning and the development of the Great Barrier Reef shelf system: Quaternary Science Reviews 23, pp. In this paper, we describe the geomorphology of reef talus deposits found in the Gulf of Carpentaria and Arafura Sea, Australia, that we attribute to tropical cyclones.

The orientation of these deposits is also indicative of a consistent, along-coast transport pathway. An explanation for the consistent along-coast cyclone transport pathway is presented based on previously published hydrodynamic modelling results. These models illustrate how currents generated by the passage of a cyclone are asymmetric in plan view, such that stronger flows are generated between the eye of the cyclone and the coast.

The result of the passage of many cyclones over geologic timescales is a net along-coast sediment transport pathway located on the inner- to mid-shelf, possibly extending over the entire length of northern Australia’s coastline. This process provides an explanation for the observed sediment transport patterns on modern tropical continental shelves, as well as a basis for the interpretation of ancient tropical shelf deposits.

Rail transport in Victoria, Australia, is provided by a number of railway operators who operate over the government-owned railway lines. The network consists of Victorian broad gauge (1, mm (5 ft 3 in)) lines, and an increasing number of standard gauge (1, mm (4 ft 8 1 ⁄ 2 in)) freight and interstate lines; the latter brought into existence as a result of gauge conversion of the former.
