Amp in Protect Mode – Troubleshooting Foreword: I get so many questions about amplifiers going into protection or blowing fuses after remote turn-on voltage is applied that I’ve decided to provide a page to help determine if the amplifier is faulty or if a fault in the system is causing a problem. Many amplifiers will illuminate their protect LED during the mute delay when you initially power up the amplifier. After a short delay seconds , the protect LED will go off. For those amplifiers this is normal. If you know how your amplifier behaves when the amp is in good working order, it will make troubleshooting much easier. If you are unsure about this, you can email me or ask someone on a forum where they’re familiar with the amplifier you have. For the most part, this page is for amplifiers that go into protect mode and remain in protect mode or go into protect mode when the amplifier is driven hard. Many times, the protection indicator will blink to indicate the reason the amp is in protect mode. The owner’s manual is the best source to help you decode the blink sequence.
Many makers of tube amps caution against turning on their amps when they’re not connected to speakers. Although Dave Gordon had told me that I could break in the Ms’ tubes without connecting the amps to my speakers, ARC later sent me two huge, heavy brass resistors. I connected these to the Ms’ speaker terminals, to ensure that break-in would occur evenly.
Jul 20, · Best Answer: You can connect as many subwoofers to a mono amplifier as you wish, as long as you remember two things: 1. You must make sure the combined impedance (ohms) of the subwoofer system doesn’t go below the amplifier’s minimum impedance rating. : Resolved.

MORE If you buy a monoblock amplifier that put out watts RMS x 1 channel at 2 ohms and have 2 subs that are watts RMS each will you be able to hook both up to this amp and get the said watts? If your subs are 4ohms each, then yes it’ll be easy. Hook them up in parallel and you’re up and running at W!
I have also seen many, many MTX amps that go bad, and just stay in protect. the easiest way to check, is to unhook the speaker wire from the amp, then power it up, if it still goes into protect without a speaker hooked to it, you have a bad amp.
How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own. So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system.
AV receivers feature bass management to direct the low bass frequencies to the sub and the midrange and treble frequencies to the speakers. The subwoofer is hooked up to the receiver with a single interconnect cable. Stereo receivers, pre-amps, and integrated amplifiers rarely have subwoofer output jacks or offer bass-management options. So instead of using those connections, we’ll use the subwoofer’s speaker-level, aka “high-level,” inputs.
Most, but not all, subwoofers have these inputs; they get connected using speaker cables to the same speaker output jacks on your receiver or amplifier that are also hooked up to your speakers. That means you have to double up the connections on the receiver or amplifier see photo below that illustrates that connection method. The top picture has just the speaker cables connected to the stereo amp; the bottom picture has the speaker and subwoofer cables connected. The sub will use its built-in crossover aka “low pass” filter to determine the upper limit of the frequencies produced by the subwoofer.
With small speakers with 4-inch or smaller woofers, you’ll set the sub’s crossover frequency at Hz or higher, and with speakers with 5-inch or larger woofers, 80Hz or lower. Then set the sub’s volume control to provide the level of bass support you want.
Can i hook two subs up to a one channel amp?
June 20, Without being facetious, why? Do you use different amps for different purposes depending on the input? Do you have a different set of speakers connected to each amp, or do you use the same speakers, connecting and reconnecting them as required? Or, can you connect the same speakers to different amps simultaneously? Sometimes people switch amplifiers because there are trade offs in the sound of each so they use one with certain music another with other music.

Your Subwoofer—Wired for Sound Wiring configurations for any application You have more than one option for connecting your subwoofer to your amplifier. But first, you must take into consideration the need to match your amplifier, subwoofer and their impedance in order to obtain the highest performance from these components.
The wiring diagrams, mentioned in the following paragraphs, are just some of the best options available to you. Important To avoid your high-powered amplifier from overheating, as well as damage to both your amp and subs, the ohms you drive your amp with must not be lower than what it is designed to handle. Some low-impedance wiring diagrams are included. Voice Coils—Single or Dual A single subwoofer voice coil is equipped with 2 terminal posts. A dual subwoofer voice coil is equipped with 4 terminal posts.
The impedances for these voice coils are 2-ohm, 4-ohm and 8-ohm. Things may get complicated when you wire dual voice coils and more than one subwoofer together. This may not be a very practical option, as the total impedance is not always easy to calculate.

yes u power to both amps. run the rcas to the smaller amp, then take the output wires and put a rca end on it then plug into the other amp, then hook the speaker up to the amp. then your on the road.
Male Great amp for subwoofer. Okay, so I am not a “pro” audio installer it is just a hobby that allows me to putter around, play with solder and copper wire, and hurt my ears. With that said, I am on a pretty tight budget so even the “cheap” components put a dent in my wallet, forcing me to make my purchases over time. I selected it based on bluetooth connectivity and DIN size. Radio reception is pretty typical.
Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls has a thin, tinny sound at the other end, but of course it sounds really good in the passenger cabin when it comes through all of the speakers.

The following is the most basic system. It involves a head unit HU and 2 pairs of speakers which are driven by the head unit’s internal amplifier. You can see that the battery terminal of the HU is connected to a constant source of power the battery with an inline fuse.

The products might look familiar, the result of evolution rather than revolution, but they work, they go on working and if they do stop working, the company is there and ready to fix them. Buyers all too often do just that, seduced by the new — and all too often they live to regret it. Another name that belongs close to the top of that list is Gryphon Audio, doyen of the Danish high end. Gryphon is a company whose products, developed under the balefully benevolent glower and in the substantial shadow of Gryphon-in-chief Flemming Rasmussen, seem to have simply gotten bigger — and blacker — over the years.
Its gold-plated front panel and tongue-in-cheek rack-mount handles presented their own humorous take on the form factor of those American muscle amps from the likes of Krell and Threshold, which were just reaching European shores at that time. Pretty soon, the exquisite fit and finish that characterized that first head amp had been incorporated into products like the Antileon power amp, whose size, sophistication and astonishing density made those early Krells seem like positive lightweights.
Mind you, for that you do get a kilo nearly pound black Colossus, capable of delivering Wpc of pure class-A power from the stereo chassis, while the monoblock will dump watts into a 1-ohm load. This might just be more than you feel you need — as well as more than you can possibly afford. Which brings us to the subject of this review, the Atilla integrated amp, along with the matching Scorpio CD player.
They play nice with their owners too. Seldom have I enjoyed the fuss-free installation that I got with the Gryphons. Place the Atilla and Scorpio on a decent level surface, plug them in and hook them up and you are ready to go. One thing to watch out for: Once you have the Scorpio and Atilla set up and switched on, operation is totally intuitive, either from the front panel or the remote control.
How To Properly Hook Up Speakers to Amps
Like a ski jumper. Sound floats in space, waves of music washing over me. Detail yes, but it wasn’t not spot-lit or clinical. In essence, one monoblock chassis comprises dual single-ended-triode amplifiers, each handling one half of the audio waveform. The whole shebang is balanced from input to output. For almost 30 years, Ralph Karsten and company have been building reliable output-transformerless tube amplifiers based on his patented Circlotronic circuit.

I have 2 10″ Kicker Comp Subs That amplifier is only rated at watts at 4 ohms, or watts at 2 ohms. Not a very strong amp to run 2 kicker comps. My guess is you have the subs wired wrong for your application. There are 2 types of subs, one is a dual 4 ohm, and one is a dual 2 ohm. Most people bridge these coils together and that cuts your ohms in half.
Lets say you have the 10cvr subs. Thats the dual 4 ohm sub. You wire the coils together in parallel, now its a 2 ohm sub. You have 2 of these subs running off of your amp, if they are hooked up in parallel, now you have a 1 ohm load, out of the amplifiers normal operation.
